Mission DuPont
I asked on my Instagram recently if people would want me to start sharing first impressions and reviews of the restaurants and bar I frequent in the DMV area. After a resounding YES! I’ve decided to incorporate this to my lifestyle section. Let’s start with Mission!
Mission is a cute traditional Mexican Restaurant in the Dupont Circle area of NW Washington D.C. I’ve been on numerous occasions my first experience being my 26th birthday brunch. What’s the appeal? What drew me was the Bottomless Brunch option.
Mission’s take on bottomless includes two hours of bottomless margaritas, mimosas, bloody marys, or tecates for your choice of beverage. You also get bottomless guacamole which you can choose your desire of heat/spiciness as well as chips and salsa. You have your choice of a brunch entree, taco platter, quesadilla or nachos. You also get one el jimador tequila shot for $36.99 only catch is everyone at the table must order but who wouldn’t with all these perks. They also jokingly state to drink responsibly. “this is a marathon not a sprint!” But they couldn’t be anymore truthful slow your roll and don’t get to eager with the mimosas and margaritas because it will catch up with you!
It was the first week of December a rainy and chilly day I had just left a yoga event, Vinyls and Vinyasa in Adams Morgan with a taste for some Mexican. My friend and I looked at each other and instantly said, “Mission?” We weren’t sure if we were gonna be able to get seated right away but we lucked out with a table for two within the 10 minutes it took to find parking. It’s understood if we’re going to Mission for brunch we’re doing bottomless. I opted for the Mimosas and extra spicy guacamole! Previously when asking for spicy guacamole they never got it quite as spicy as I like but this time around the heat was perfect!
Much to my dismay the brunch menu slightly changed and my favorite entree the Breakfast Burrito with shrimp was no longer available. I finessed my way into getting it by asking the chef to add egg (for an additional up charge) and shrimp to the existing burrito entree. The burrito was delicious and I can never fix it from the endless amount of guacamole I devoured.
While sipping my mimosa the bartender comes gingerly walking by with my el jimador shot which I couldn’t even fathom taking. But as a true brunch champ of course I did! Mission has good vibes and good food. It can get really noisy at times and often accommodates large parties. A woman sitting near us ordered the Mexican Toast it looked and smelled delicious! I plan on ordering that and sharing it and possibly ordering the Portabello Omelette on my next visit. If you’re truly about a bottomless brunch I suggest you check out Mission.
